This weekend we again headed to Toronto, primarily to see the musical "Jersey Boys", which is the story of Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons. The show was superb with great music, singing and dancing. Our neighbours Judy and Rob accompanied us and we had a lovely dinner and breakfast with them.
On the way we decided to check out the Ontario Australian Football League Grand Final between the Toronto Eagles and the Entobicoke Kangaroos. The Eagles have won a succession of premierships but had been soundly beaten in the 2nd semi by the Kangaroos. The Eagles rebounded in the prelim, trouncing the Broadview Hawks by 10 goals.
After taking a while to find the ground (it was no MCG!) we arrived just in time to see the teams warm up and hear the Canadian National Anthem sung. Tracy was partularly taken by the Kangas ruckman who was having a shoulder strapped (see pic). The game got off at a hectic pace in front of a couple of hundred spectators, but unfortunately the Eagles were dominating on the scoreboard. Each team can only have 9 Aussies on the ground so there is often quite a big discrepancy in the skill level of the players. At half time we took our footy and had a kick on the ground and watched the Grand Final sprint. We also noticed the guy who sang the anthem furiously learning Advance Australia Fair, which he had to sing after the game! The Eagles continued to dominate on the scoreboard, if not in general play, and ran out comfortable winners.
