With Tracy taking a sickie we headed to New York for a long weekend to meet up with Marts and Fred and their friends Tim and Jenny.
New York was fantastic - such a frenetic pace but with great friendly service everywhere we went. We began with a 3 hour cruise around Manhatten Island which enabled us to see the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, the Bronx, Harlem, all 20 bridges that connect Manhatten to the rest of New York, the Rockefeller mansion, Yankee Stadium , Wall Street ....
Our hotel was right on Madison Avenue so it was a great location - close to 5th Avenue for shopping, Times Square and Central Park. We did lots of shopping, rode rental bikes around Central Park, saw the Dakota Building where John Lennon was shot and saw lots of familiar sites from movies and television shows. Unfortunately we didn't spot any celebs except for James Hird, who we passed in 5th Avenue.
Fred lived in New York for 3 years so was a fantastic tour guide and got some great recommendations for trendy restaurants for dinners so we had some great nights too, meeting up with some of his old friends and partying!
