NIAGARA FALLS

We have just returned from another weekend at Niagara Falls, this time with Marts and Fred. They arrived last Wednesday, had a few days with us and then we took them to Niagara Falls as Marts hadn't been there before and Fred not for many years.

We stayed at a lovely B & B in Niagara-on-the-Lake which was great. The weather was low 20's. The falls were great, with much more water than last time (in winter they are pretty frozen ). We spent a full day there, going on the Maid of the Mist - a boat which goes right under the falls, a walk behind the falls, visited the Whirlpool Rapids and saw an IMAX movie about the falls All was terrific but the town of Niagara is so busy and very tacky!
The next day we just spent in the beautiful village of Niagara-on-the-Lake. It's very old and is preserved by the National Trust. The girls loved the shopping. Fred and I shopped a bit, watched the passing parade and generally just relaxed. Had a nice lunch on the shores of Lake Otario with views to Toronto on the other side. Unfortunately we didn't get time to visit the numerous wineries but maybe next time...

It was wonderful to see Marts and Fred . We had a great time with together. They have headed to Quebec City for a few days and then to New York where we will meet them next weekend. Fred lived there for 3 years so will be a great tour guide.
