OUT & ABOUT

After another sleep in we headed out for our first exploratory walk as we both a bit of "cabin fever". We discovered that at one end of our block is a nursing home and at the other end is a funeral parlour! Apparently the town is a bit of a "mecca" for sea-changers and retirees, which should make our older visitors feel right at home! As we reached the end of our street it began to snow which was quite fun except for when a snowflake goes in your ear or down your neck! We discovered lots of interesting shops, restaurants and the movie theatre. We just heard on the radio that it's now +2 degrees. No wonder it's stopped snowing which I'm pleased about as I cleared the porch and paths this afternoon. We share a drive with our next door neighbours and apparently have a "man" who clears the drive. We did hear that the temperature was supposed to soar to +13 by Tuesday but now that has been revised to +8. Apparently it's called a false spring but I'll bet we have lots more very cold weather yet to come yet.

Owen Sound is a nice town and will be awesome in spring & summer. It's a centre for fishing, boating, hiking, mountain biking etc Right now it's cross country skiing, downhill and boarding at Blue Mountain and Talisman fields. They are quite gentle hills as it's part of the Niagra Escarpmernt, not a real mountain. Still it'll be great for us non-expert skiers.

We had drinks with our new best friends, Judy and Rob next door. They are about our age and have 3 daughters, 1 of whom goes to uni in Ottawa, with another going next year. They have a cottage in Tobermorry which is right at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula surrounded by national parks. They have insisted we use it in each of the 4 seasons to fully experience the area.

Visited Trace's school yesterday just to check it out. The custodian (janitor) let us in. It seems quite nice but no computers in the classroom. She has a 2/3 composite of 23 kids with 4 integration kids! She has aides a part of the day. Not exactly sure what % yet though.
