The ski bunny The real Northern Lights Owen Sound's version
Another sleep-in to help us get over the jetlag, which is gradually getting less, and to recover from Tracy's birthday ( Aussie time) dinner at Nathaniel's restaurant ( yum). Trace has decided to have 2 birthdays - one Aussie time and one Canadian time!
We explored a bit more of town on foot as it was a balmy +5 degrees. Walked down by the bay and along the Sydenham River which is full of ice and past a huge ferry which apparently cruises through the 1000 islands in Georgian Bay in summer. We discovered the guy who originally mapped all the Great Lakes was trained whilst in gaol by our own Matthew Flinders. At least in the 1800's they learnt a useful trade whilst banged up!!
This arvo was shopping for birthday presents. Tracy the ski bunny bought a ski jacket and pants ( thanks to the Pidwells ) and now looks the part. We'll soon visit the slopes and test out the new gear.
We then visited Harrison Park, a very pretty park which the locals are very proud of. We watched some ice skaters on the rink then headed for the cafe for a cuppa, which turned into an early dinner. It will be a lovely place to come in summer.
We were excited when we got into Owen Sound to hear about their Festival of the Northern Lights. We were really excited to be able to see the Aurora Borealis BUT as it turns out the Northern Lights they refer to are 18km of Christmas ( & other) light displays along the banks & parks of the river. Not what we expected but cute anyway.
