NORTH TO ALASKA

After a long flight ( Toronto - Chicago - Anchorage) we finally arrived in Anchorage. Our hotel in Anchorage was very central which would have been ideal except it was across the road from the Alaska Railroad station. It seemed the train drivers delighted in sounding the train whistle every 10 minutes or so, which was great except that the trains run 24/7. This coupled with the fact that at this time of year there is only about 4 hours of darkness meant quite a sleepless time. A couple of days were spent exploring the town ( and cursing the train drivers!) before we headed further north to Denali National Park and hopefully some hiking, views of Mt McKinley ( highest in Nth America) and wildlife. Unfortunately the weather was against us but we did explore the funky little town of Talkeetna and enjoy a couple of lazy days in the beautiful wilderness lodge we stayed at.
