This weekend we ventured to Ganonoque and the 1000 Islands area of Ontario for another CLEE ( Canadian League for Educational Exchange ) event.
The 1000 Islands (there are over 1800 actually) dot the St Lawrence Waterway between New York State ( USA ) and Ontario ( Canada ) just before it enters Lake Ontario. As well as being a beautiful area it was strategically important in the war of 1812 between the USA and Canada, and for rum runners during the prohibition era in the USA.

After a picnic lunch on the shores of Lake Ontario we went on a 3 hour cruise around the islands which are very pretty and dotted with "cottages" ( holiday homes ) ranging from very basic to palacial to the amazing Boldt Castle. We decided we could probably afford one of the smaller islands ( a rock!). Happy hour around the pool was followed by a group dinner and a night out at the local theatre.
