After escaping a huge snowstorm by leaving home a day early we arrived in Las Vegas to bright sunny skies and 20 - 25 degree temperatures.
After a walking tour of the "Strip", Trace and I decided to go our seperate ways. She went to Bellagio, by beautiful Lake Como and I went to Rome!See pics) The casinos were amazing. 12 - 15 huge casinos about 5 times bigger than Crown, along a 3km strip + many more off the strip. All the casinos are themed so Bellagio is European refinement, Ceasars Palace everything Italian, Paris Paris - French, New York New York - you guessed it .... Inside and out are recreations of the place they are named after. We had lunch on Broadway, threw coins in the Trevi Fountain, etc. They are building more as fast as they can - construction goes on 24 hrs a day) The money here is amazing - you can get whatever you want 24/7 all financed by gambling. We donated a little bit of money to the Monte Carlo where we were staying but luckily aren't great gamblers, besides, there weren't any $2 tables!
Saw a couple of shows, the highlight being Cirque de Soleil's "Love". It's based on the music of the Beatles and was just amazing. The performers, props and score were just fantastic - we didn't know where to look. We both agreed it was the best Cirque de Soleil we had seen.
Also dusted off the clubs and had a couple of rounds of golf on their desert courses which are quite different to ours. If you miss the fairway you don't go in the rough - you are in the desert - literally! In the sand/gravel. It doesn't do your ball or clubs much good. The second round I played at the Las Vegas National while Trace was on a shopping tour. It is the oldest course in Vegas and is where Tiger Woods won his first major Sinatra etc used to play and perform there too. I played with a couple of young guys who are in Las Vegas on college golf scholarships. One has just turned pro and the other got to 8 under at one stage and looked like equalling Tom Kite's course record of 63 before the wind blew up a bit and the pressure of a great round got to him. He still finished 5 under for the round. Played off the back markers and it was quite intimidating, especially early. I was quite pleased how I played as only my putting let me down, which is understandable as I haven't played since Xmas.
