HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY

February 2nd is Groundhog Day so we travelled to Wiarton, about 30km away to join in the local festivities. A famous albino groundhog " Wiarton Willy" lives there. Apparently albino groundhogs can predict when spring is coming, but only on Groundhog Day. "Wiarton Willy" has never been wrong! When he emerges from his burrow, if he can see his shadow it will be a long, harsh winter. If he can't see his shadow, spring will come early. Today his shadow was nowhere to be seen so spring's coming early - yeeha!
The town celebrated with a parade, chilli eating contest, pizza eating contest, softball matches in the snow, a ball, beaty contests and lots of other crazy events. We also visited Willy's $20,000 state of the art home but he was snoozing after his early exertion. He even has his own webcam at http://www.wiartonwilliecam.com
