CARNIVAL TIME

Last weekend was the highlight so far! We went to the Winter Carnival at Quebec City. We stayed at the Hilton hotel and from our window we could look over all of Quebec City and the St. Lawrence River. The exchange group organised the trip and we had Friday off school and flew up Friday morning and came back Sunday afternoon. The city is 400 years old so the celebration was even bigger this year. The whole city is like one big party and people wander around until the early hours of the morning. There was music and exhibitions and stalls selling Beaver Tail (a sweet pastry), caribou ( drink of vodka, rum, red wine and spices ) and taffy ( like a gooey toffee ). They had toboggan rides down an icy slide which we braved! We went on an ice ferry across the St. Lawrence River. We visited an amazing Hotel made entirely out of ice. People can stay there and it cost $1000.00 per night. Each room has ice sculptures in it and the bed is made of ice with a mattress in the middle. They give you a sleeping bag and they say it gets to -40 degreees ( I could think of better ways to spend a night). They have a night club (see photo) and you drink from ice glasses. The guide said the place was pumping last night. All seats and tables are made of ice with fur to sit on. The absolute classic was the Chapel ( made of ice). People actually can get married there. I am sitting at the table where you sign the documents.
